mukunda mAlA is a set of 40 verses on lord Krishna, written by Sri KulashEkhara ALvAr. With the name KulashEkhara Varman, he was the founder of later ChEra dynasty in south india. He ruled from 800AD to 820AD. He is also know to be one of the great hindu AlvAr saint of the vaishnava movement in south India. He is also the author of
perumal tirumoLi, one of the devotional works in Tamil, and
mukunda mAlA, in sanskrit.
It is believed that he became sanyasi and lived in Srirangam to serve the deity of Ranganatha. He is revered as the 9th Alwar of the 12 alwars in sri vaishnavisam.
mukunda mAlA, is a 40 verse poem in sanskrit. It is written in the style of bhakti saints and here the author asks mukunda, or Krishna to give the freedom from samsAra. it describes the misery of the soul trapped in this body.
